The Sisal Historical Archive arose out the desire to preserve the historical memory of a great Italian company, which has been operating since 1946 in the gaming sector as a State licensee, and which has accompanied the growth and development of the country since its origins. The reconstruction of the football stadiums destroyed during World War II was, in fact, the main aim and great hope placed in the Sisal Ticket, which later became Totocalcio.

In 2012 the company began collecting, selecting and cataloguing the most important material and documents of its history, laying the foundations of the archive. This was an important step towards the preservation and promotion of its heritage, as a tool to make the company’s memory accessible in its transformations, to forge its historical path to accompany the drive towards innovation that has always characterised Sisal.

The first major milestone was the creation of the Historical Archive situated in the historic headquarters in Peschiera Borromeo, which houses a large part of the documentable holding of the companies of the group: over 6,000 photographic documents, the collection of the Sport Italia newspaper from its first edition in May 1946, news reviews, financial statements, circulars, concessions and regulations of the products managed, 700 advertising posters, over 3,000 tickets and much more.

In 2021, on the occasion of its 75th anniversary, Sisal added another impetus to its path, bringing together the contents in a coherent and exciting way, through a physical and digital display in its new offices of its headquarters in Via Ugo Bassi 6 in Milan, to allow its employees and guests to discover the history, projects and documents that has seen it play a leading role in the country’s customs since 1946.
