The “Archivio Maggia 1780” project stems from the Maggia family’s desire to enhance and make accessible the collections and historical productions of the Maglificio through the establishment of a product archive.
The company is housed in the historic building from 1780 in Occhieppo Superiore, nestled in the Biellese valleys, where yarns, fabrics, and finished garments were once produced using energy recovered from turbines installed along the watercourse. Today, it manufactures knit fabrics for the world’s top brands.
Its international success began in the 1970s when Maglificio Maggia sponsored tennis icons like Vitas Gerulaitis, John Newcombe, and Billie Jean King, who carried the iconic circled “M” logo worldwide. These garments, along with others tied to high-fashion brands, are now preserved in the archive of the historic company. With its 2,890 pieces, the archive represents the historical heritage of the family, the company, and a region devoted to textiles.
