The Ferrania Film Museum is an industrial and territorial culture museum dedicated to the film factory founded in 1917 in Ferrania (a hamlet of Cairo Montenotte, Savona). Born from the industrial conversion of S.I.P.E. (Società Italiana Prodotti Esplodenti), the museum tells the industrial and social history of the plant, which alongside Kodak, Agfa\Gevaert, Fujifilm, and Ilford, wrote the most important chapters in the world of photography, cinema, and radiography.
The museum’s archive is composed of various collections: bibliographic (history, science, and technology of photosensitive materials and Ferrania magazine), documentary (personnel files, technical architectural and urban planning drawings of the industrial site, drawings of machinery and Pathé plants from the early 20th century, service orders, forms, and movie posters), photographic (negatives, photographs, and slides), and film in 35mm and reduced gauge, coming from the factory, the 3M Foundation (Milan), and numerous donations and collaborations.
The marked anthropological approach offers visitors a museum experience open to multiple interpretations, accessible not only to experts but also to the simple enthusiast, in a special journey through the historical, social, and cultural changes of the 20th century.
A museum “sensitive” to stories, intelligence, and research paths.
