It is difficult to tell the story of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti without considering the history of our country. CDP has grown along with Italy, accompanying it in the economic and social changes that have identified its history. Since 1850, the Group has collected the legacy of these evolutions into an extraordinary cultural heritage consisting in works of art, photographs, films, historical volumes and paper documents, postal savings bonds and passbook savings accounts, and corporate artefacts.
Since 2019 CDP has started an ambitious project of reorganization, recovery, digitization and enhancement of its artistic and archival collections, in order to promote the industrial culture of the country.
The CDP company museum was born in Rome, in the heart of the historical company headquarters, during the celebrations of its 170 years of activity. The exhibition brings a virtuous historical model: works of art made between the 1950s and the 1970s for the magazine “Civiltà delle Macchine”, a bold expression of the union between the two cultures – the humanistic and the scientific ones – and an avant-garde periodical in which the enlightened and universal thoughts of scientists, intellectuals and artists are summarized. The industry was investigated in its most human and innovative side through the eyes of great masters, summoned to reflect on the relationship between art and industry and their incisive impact on society.
Bringing back this virtuous model, of happy fusion between the disciplines, allows to recover the past in order to face the future with courage and vision.
